How much to charge for an Instagram reel in India (rate guide 2026)
How Indian creators price reels, stories and posts: start from views, adjust for engagement and niche, and add usage rights and exclusivity. With a worked example and a free calculator.
There’s no official rate card for Indian creators, but there is a sensible way to work out your price, explain it and defend it. Here it is.
Start with views, not followers
Brands pay to be seen. Your average reel views (over your last 10–12 reels) is the best single number to price from. Followers only matter as a rough guide when you don’t have view numbers.
A rate for every 1,000 views
Think of your price as a rate for every 1,000 views. Smaller accounts earn more per 1,000 views, because their audiences trust them more and the work is the same. These are working benchmarks, not a survey; adjust them to what brands have actually paid you:
| Average reel views | Per 1,000 views (low – high) |
|---|---|
| Under 5,000 | ₹600 – ₹1,200 |
| 5,000 – 25,000 | ₹450 – ₹950 |
| 25,000 – 1,00,000 | ₹350 – ₹750 |
| 1,00,000 – 5,00,000 | ₹250 – ₹550 |
| Over 5,00,000 | ₹180 – ₹420 |
Then adjust
- Engagement: above about 3% engagement for your size, move up the range; below, move down.
- Niche: finance, tech, beauty, parenting and fitness usually pay more than comedy or general entertainment.
- Format: a carousel is often around three quarters of a reel, a single post about half, one story about a third.
- Work involved: scripting, travel, a shoot day or a product demo all add cost.
Add usage rights and exclusivity
Usage rights let the brand run your content as ads or on their pages. It’s worth more to them, so charge for it: around 30% extra for 30 days and more for longer. Exclusivity (no competing brands for a while) costs you other deals, so add 20% or more for 30 days.
A worked example
A Bengaluru beauty creator averages 12,000 views a reel with good engagement. At ₹700 per 1,000 views that’s about ₹8,400 for a reel. Beauty is a stronger niche (×1.2), so roughly ₹10,000. The brand wants 30 days of usage rights (+30%): about ₹13,000. A fair range to quote is ₹11,000–₹15,000.

Barter, or paid?
Products instead of money can be fine early on or for brands you love, but count the product’s value against the work. More in barter vs paid collabs.
How to talk about price
- Quote a range with options (a reel; a reel with stories) rather than a single number.
- Say what’s included: rounds of changes, usage, posting date.
- If the budget is low, offer less (a story set) instead of dropping your price.
- Put the agreement in writing before you shoot.
